The design

Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday 8 September at the age of 96, after ruling the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for 70 years. An iconic figure, she left her mark on the world. Born in 1926, she has lived through the ages and leaves us almost a hundred years old. During her reign, the longest in England, almost as long as that of King Louis XIV, she saw 15 prime ministers, including the no less famous Winston Churchill, but also 13 American presidents and 10 French presidents.

Known for her commitment to the Second World War as a mechanic, while still a princess, Elizabeth II was the guarantor of the British monarchy, one of the last among the Western countries. Throughout her life, she managed to safeguard the image of royalty, its prestige and traditions, through the upheavals her country has gone through.

Beyond all this, the Queen of England has also become an iconic figure in the world of numismatics and bullion coins: her portrait has crossed ages and borders. This coin pays tribute to her today.
