Products

What can you tell us about the quality of your gold and silver coins?

To ensure that you are investing in the highest possible quality, Vera Valor gold and silver coins have a fineness level of 999.9 parts per thousand for gold and 999.0 parts per thousand for silver.

These investment coins are minted by the greatest gold refiners in the world, certified by the London Bullion Market Association.

On the veravalor.com site, you will also find some of the great collectors' items, such as Napoleon 20 franc coins. These products are sourced exclusively within the professional market and you will be provided with a certificate of authenticity.

Why do the coin prices vary?

The coin prices are subject to change as they're linked to the fluctuating prices of gold and silver. To ensure that prices are fair, they are updated in real time. This guarantees that you are buying your gold and silver coins at the best price.

Is it possible to personalise the coins?

We love giving our customers access to the very best by offering a bespoke service. So, for certain coin ranges, you may personalise them by having an engraving on the obverse side of the coin.

You can therefore create a truly unique coin as a gift or a keepsake for your home.

I'm looking for a specific coin but I can't find it on your site.

We have chosen to limit our product range, only offering coins that enjoy worldwide recognition and whose origins can be fully certified by us. This discerning policy means that you can be sure that you are buying gold and silver coins whose provenance, fineness and quality have been fully appraised.

However, the Aucoffre group (our parent company) has over 10 years of expertise in precious metals and has an extremely wide range of products available, such as the Krugerrand, Sovereign, Maple Leaf, Australian Nugget or the Panda from the China Mint. So, if you're looking for a very specific product, please contact us at [email protected] so that we can help you find what you're looking for.

Are there different weights for gold and silver coins?

Yes, there are indeed different weights for gold and silver coins. The most commonly used unit is the troy ounce. Below you will find the approximate equivalent weights in grams:

  • 1 once = 31,1 grams
  • 1/2 once = 15,5 grams
  • 1/4 once = 7,77 grams
  • 1/10 once = 3,11 grams

What is the coin premium?

The coin premium is the difference between the price of the precious metal contained within the coin and the total price of the coin.

If we wanted to draw a parallel with a luxury product such as a handbag from a major fashion house, the premium of the bag represents the difference in price between the raw materials (the leather) and the final price of the bag. Thinking about it in these terms, the premium on a coin is minuscule compared to the premium that applies in the luxury goods sector.

The main factors that influence the coin premium are:

  • Manufacture: the manufacturing costs.
  • Speculation: the premium depends on the rules of supply and demand for a given coin. If a coin is rare and sought after, the premium will be higher.
  • Storage: If a coin is in perfect condition, the premium will remain intact. However, if the coin is damaged (scratches, finger marks, rubbed areas), the premium can be reduced and could even become negative. That's why we always send your coins to high end vaults that will ensure that your coins are protected.

What is a legal-tender coin?

For a coin to be used as legal tender, it must be issued by a given country. The face value expressed in the currency of the issuing country must be attributed to the coin independently of its actual, intrinsic value.

Here's an example to make it a bit clearer.
Let's take the Vera Valor Elizabeth II, one troy ounce of gold with a face value of 100 New Zealand dollars (NZD). The coin was minted in partnership with the island of Niue and has a face value of 100 NZD, giving it the status of legal tender. If you wished, you could use this coin to pay for a product with a value up to 100 NZD in shops that accept the New Zealand dollar. However, we wouldn't advise you to do this! The intrinsic value of the coin is actually derived from its weight in solid gold, which would be far more than its face value of 100 NZD.

What is the face value of a coin?

The face value of a legal-tender coin is the value assigned to it by the body responsible for its minting. Usually shown on the reverse side, the value is not related to the intrinsic value of the coin, which represents the value of its component parts.

Let's look again at the example of the Vera Valor Elizabeth II 1 ounce. Its face value is 100 NZD, whereas its intrinsic value corresponds to the price of 31.1 grams of solid gold.

What is the vintage of a coin?

The vintage defines the date of issue of a gold or silver coin. It is usually stamped on the obverse side of the coin.

What is the assay value of a coin?

The assay value of a coin describes its fineness. It corresponds to the proportion of pure precious metal (gold or silver) contained within an alloy. It's expressed in number of parts per thousand.
So if a gold coin has an assay value of 900‰, this means that the alloy has 900 parts of gold and 100 parts of other metals (known as base metals). Because we wish to offer you the very best, our Vera Valor coins have an extremely high fineness value of 999.9‰ for the gold Vera Valor.

What is a hallmark?

In the same way that luxury fashion houses emblazon their creations with their logo, the hallmark gives you information about the manufacturer of the coin and its assay value. It is applied during the striking process and is an integral part of the coin.

Delivery and returns

How much does international delivery cost?

  1. Would you like to place an order from a country in the European Union? Please see our "Secure delivery" section to find out more.
  2. Do you live outside of the European Union? Don't worry, Vera Valor can still deliver your package to you, subject to a small supplement to cover the additional transport costs. You will need to find out whether taxes and duty fees apply to the delivery country.

Due to the many different regulations that apply in each country, it's not possible for us to provide information about exactly which taxes and duty fees apply to each destination country. If you have any questions about delivery outside of the European Union, please contact us by email at: [email protected]. Our advisers are available to give you the information you need so that you can receive your delivery wherever you like.

Please note that we reserve the right not to deliver to certain destinations due to recurrent problems we've encountered on previous deliveries. We apologise if this causes you any inconvenience. Please get in touch so that we can work out a solution with you.

How long does delivery take?

The delivery time is calculated from the point at which the package is handed over to the carrier. For deliveries to European Union member states, it takes an average of 2 to 5 working days.

However, it does depend on a number of factors, such as product availability, delivery destination and carrier timescales, as well as factors outside of our control.

When you place your order, an approximate delivery time will be indicated to you. In addition, once your order is complete, you will be sent a tracking number by email so that you can track your order.

If you have any questions about delivery times, please contact us using the contact form. We will respond as soon as we can.

Is it possible for me to collect my purchases from your premises?

Obviously, for security reasons, we do not hold any stock at our offices. It is therefore not possible to collect your purchases from us.

Where should my order be shipped to?

Depending on the type of delivery, your signature is required to confirm receipt of the package. You will therefore need to go to your nearest post office to collect your package. In some cases, notably where the total value is less than 300 euros, the package can be sent directly to your home. We recommend that you arrange to be at home when the delivery is scheduled.

We use a discreet and highly secure delivery service that enables your package to be tracked through all stages of the delivery.

I want to return my product. Is this possible?

Due to the price fluctuations of our products based on a price chart and in accordance with Article L221-28 of the Consumer Code, we are unable to accept returns on gold and silver coins and bullion coins.

Please see our "Returns policy" section to find out more.

For accessory products, you have 14 days after receipt of the package to contact our teams and exercise your cancellation rights. This can be done under "My account".
You just need to fill in the returns form, indicating:

  • your order number
  • the reason for the return
  • a photo of the product you wish to return

Our teams will be in touch with you very soon afterwards to explain the returns process.

Only items returned within 14 days of delivery in perfect condition and in their original packaging, accompanied by the "returns form" that our team will send to you, will be acceptable. Once the product has been received at our premises and its condition checked, we will then arrange for a full or partial refund which you will be notified about by email.
